話題が戻って申し訳ないんだけど、“Do you know what time it is?” とか “You know what time it is!” は、やっぱりスラングとして使われることがあるんだなあ。インターネットに以下のような文章があった。これは、スタンダード曲の “I Didn’t Know What Time It Was” で使われている意味に極めて近いと思う。“I remember in a stretch of time” と言っているので、昔の使われ方なんだろう。
Just because someone may have asked you, “Do you know what time it is, man?” That doesn’t mean they really want to know the time. I remember in a stretch of time there in New York City that people were basically saying, “Man, you’re out of it. You don’t get it, do you? You know what time it is? You don’t know what's happening.” They’re saying, “You really don’t have it all figured out yet, man.”
ほかの使い方もあって、以下のような新聞記事があった。これは、90 年代の新聞記事だから比較的最近である。

But the robbery began when one assailant pounced on an employee as he cleaned the restaurant, pulled a gun and asked, “Do you know what time it is?” Cops say the phrase is slang used in announcing a stickup.
“I Didn’t Know What Time It Was” の場合、さらに time が day や year に変奏されて使われているので、日本語だと上手く訳すのが極めて難しくて困ってしまうが、単純に言えば 「naive だった」つまり「世の中のことをよく知らなかった」を別の表現で変奏しているのである。
